MADELEINE SHEPPARD'S (z5309143) CURATED BLOG SUBMISSION: Process from Week 5

1.

1:10 Measurement templates      18/03/2020
1: These are my original sketches and measurements of my chosen living space, my bedroom. I used these measurements to accurately scale and construct all of my five models. Doing this helped me start the whole project and think more clearly about my approach.

1:10 Cardboard Model Process Photography      2/04/2020
2: Originally, I wanted to have this 1:10 scaled model in a monochrome finish to accomplish my goal of elegance and simplicity. After photographing and experimenting with black and white filters, this result produced a somber and bland finish to the overall model. So after this test, I decided to use the natural tan of the cardboard in my final submission layout to bring out more vibrancy within the model.

1:10 Paper Manipulation Model      4/04/2020
3: Process photos of 1:10 scaled paper manipulation model. These photos were adequate but did not fit with my other photos for the final submission layout. However, these photos helped me improve my photo editing skills on Photoshop.

1:20 Black Paper Model      7-9/04/2020
4 & 5: Accidental/Unintended design choice. After practicing my origami and architectural paper folding techniques for my second 1:10 scaled paper model, I realised I was accidentally cutting the wrong piece of paper for the model. However, this made me think that this fold-and-cut design could create a unique design. So I tested and refined this method for my first 1:20 light model. The result came out quite magnificently, as the effects of the cut-outs gave a stellar interior light show!

1:20 Wooden Dowel Model Process Photography      11/04/2020
6: Process shots of my 1:20 craftwood dowel model. I decided not to use these images, even though they are adequate, did not fit well with the other images for the final layout.

1:50 Paper Net Model      13/04/2020
7: Through using Autodesk Fusion 360, I created my 1:50 scaled model. I input my measurements and made a flat paper net design. I then exported the files onto Illustrator, printing them out onto regular 90 gsm cartridge paper (Only suitable paper I had available during COVID-19 isolation restrictions). This application proved to be very useful, easy and effective. I will definitely use this method (and templates) for future design projects.

1:50 Photoshop Renderings      18-19/04/2020
8, 9 & 10: This task to design and create textured renderings, based off of my own model helped me learn new skills, tools and functions in Photoshop, that I later applied to my final photos of my models. Feedback from my tutor (Nic Snowden) and teammates greatly assisted me in improving my skills. This task also improved my knowledge of design principles and elements.
